Refugia
Kristen Anderson
with Susan Hawkinson & Loree Miltich
On View April 3 - May 22, 2026
MacRostie Gallery
Sponsored by The Loggy Dome
In the natural world, pockets of ecosystems that retain biodiversity and resilience amid changing conditions are referred to as ‘Refugia’. In northern Minnesota, our refugia are wetlands and, in particular, seasonal ponds. Kristen Anderson (Bigfork, MN) will display a series of felt tapestries representing this concept. Susan Hawkinson and Loree Miltich (Grand Rapids, MN) have composed an ekphrastic, double-voice poem as part of the exhibition that considers the remarkable life held in seasonal ponds and their essential role in the ecosystem of northern Minnesota.
Mutual Aid and Chosen Family
Carolyn Olson
On View March 6 - April 24, 2026
Minnesota Gallery
Sponsored by Hawkinson Construction
In this exhibition Carolyn Olson (Duluth, MN) shares large-scale pastel drawings that explore positive community-based themes such as mutual aid and chosen family. The works tell stories that remind viewers that we aren’t alone, and that our families and community need us as much as we need them.
