About the Featured Artist

“I am interested in history and memory of place and how the imprint they leave can be explored through art. The approach I take to painting is similar to the approach I used as an editor and writer telling a story. I attempt to learn more about the history and background—the stories—of the people and places I paint. I want to understand how a particular world came together.”

Susan Klann grew up in a small rural town in south-central Pennsylvania and attended schools in Pennsylvania and upstate New York. She graduated from Northwestern University with a BA in English and earned an MFA from the University of Montana. After a career in writing and editing, Klann began studying drawing and painting at the Art Students League in Denver, CO.  She currently splits her time between Denver and rural Itasca County and continues to participate in local art classes and groups active in both places.
