Richard Christianson is a retired art teacher who has been designing, fabricating, and marketing his jewelry since 1972. His pieces encompass designs of nature, recognizable abstractions, whimsy, and varying arrangements of shape.

Richard’s designs use a wide variety of metal-working techniques, one of which is called “piercing.” Piercing involves cutting out portions of the metal to reveal a design. A very small, thread-sized saw is guided through tiny holes that have been drilled in the metal, and each area of the design in sawed out by hand until the entire design is revealed. Richard often uses colorful resins to fill in the spaces that were cut out in the piercing process.
