Contemporary Indigenous Art Survey (Feb. 5 - March 5)

Time: 7:00 - 8:30 pm

This class in an introductory survey of contemporary Indigenous art over the present decade. Participants will learn about emerging and established artists from North America with a particular focus on the Woodlands and Northern Plains regions. Students will learn about the importance of distinguishing between cultural tradition, iconography, and technique. This course will also initiate discussion about cultural appropriation and the importance of the local #BuyNative campaign. Participants will have the opportunity to learn from several local Native and/or Indigenous artists and arts advocates. The class will conclude with a carpool field trip to the Indigenous First Art Gallery in Duluth.
