Join us every Second Saturday at the MAC for Family Create Saturdays!  Free family-orientated art activities with a new theme each month!  Children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult!  Funded in part by Children First! and Blandin Foundation.

Turtle Time X Two

Create ceramic turtles with your child in this fun, family participation class.  The instructor will walk you and your child through the steps of creating two cute turtles out of clay, and then two weeks later you will come back and glaze them together to give them a vibrant color!  Class fee covers one adult and one child, as well as materials and firing costs for two turtles.  Because of the amount of preparation that is involved for the instructor of this class, please sign up early.  Registration will close one week before the class begins.

Wheel & Sculptural Pottery

Ages 5-8

This fun and inspirational class is open to students with beginning to intermediate levels of ability. Students will learn pottery and sculptural techniques. Projects will be selected based on the student’s level of experience and age. A healthy snack will be provided at the beginning of class. The course fee includes the cost of materials.

Ages 9-16

Using clay and found objects, we will create our own short films!  Students will create their own storylines, develop their characters from clay and found objects, construct backgrounds for their films, and then film and edit their own stories!  This class is appropriate for beginners of animation, but will also be interesting to students of previous animation classes in that it will approach new ground and use new materials.  A healthy snack will be provided at the beginning of class.  The course fee includes the cost of materials.

Fantastical Painting

Ages 9-16

Bizarre and fantastic will be the norm in this fun painting class.  Learn how to construct imaginative paintings that spring from surreal universes in your mind.  This class is appropriate for beginners to advanced painters, and we will be using acrylic paint and canvas.  Students will learn the basics of acrylic painting as well as complex ideas about composition and color.  A healthy snack will be provided at the beginning of class.  The course fee includes the cost of materials.  Ages 9-16

family Paint-a-bowl

Ages 4+ accompanied by adult

Parents, grandparents, mentors – join your child for this multigenerational art class.  Our resident potter will walk you through the process of glazing a pair of bowls that will last a lifetime.  Create beautiful pottery and beautiful memories.  Absolutely no art experience required and all materials will be provided.  Fee covers one adult and one child with abowl for each.

Day Off From School Art Camp

Ages 5-11

School is closed so come and spend the day at the MAC!  Art instructors will lead projects in various mediums including painting, drawing, sculpture and collage.  The day will focus on fun and creativity!  There will be a lunch break from 11:30-12:30 so please bring your own nut-free bag lunch!

Drawing for Kids

Drawing is relaxing and can unleash your creativity. Did you ever want to make your own comics or manga? Learn the basics of what it takes to get your own comic books started and how to make your own stories come to life.  We will cover character creation, world building, how to make your story flow from panel to panel and page to page and finish with making a dynamic cover for your book!   A healthy snack will be provided at the beginning of class.  The course fee includes the cost of materials.  Ages 9-16.  (Note, there will be no class on December 28th)
