Introduction to Using Metal in Textiles (June 20)

20.00

Instructor: Tracy Krumm

Dates: Thursday, June 20

Time: 10:00 am - 3:00 pm

Come and explore the application of metal to textile structures. In this brief workshop, the use of wire in various metals and gauges will be introduced to textile processes like knitting, crochet, and coiling. The class will involve fast-paced, hands-on sampling and problem solving using metal alone or in combination with other fibers. Discussion about structure, material appropriateness, and basic patina on metal will be covered. Students need to have an intermediate level of competence in any hand construction method. Materials (metal wire) and small tools, like crochet hooks, will be provided. Bring any other fibers you are interested in combining with metal, and tools such as a wire cutter and small pliers, scissors, sketchbook and pen to take notes. Expect projects to be small when fully realized.
