Art Around the World in Northern MN

Diversity is a beautiful thing, both in life, and in art. Come experience and celebrate the cultural diversity we have here in our area through community sharing and art activities. Each session will have a different guest to share their culture with us and a MAC instructor to lead a coordinated art project. This is a multi-generational arts and culture activity, open to all! Ages 8+ (ages 4-7 welcome with an adult).

Intro to Youth Pottery

This is a fun and inspirational class is open to students with beginning to intermediate levels of ability. Students will learn pottery and sculptural techniques. Projects will be selected based on the student’s level of experience and age. A healthy snack will be provided at the beginning of class. The course fee includes the cost of materials. Ages 6+.

Drawing & Painting for Kids

Experiment with both representational and abstract styles of drawing and painting as you develop your creative skills. This class is appropriate for students of all abilities, and sure to be fun for all. A healthy snack will be provided at the start of class. All materials will be provided by the instructor for this class. Ages 5-8.

Creative Expression for Youth + Adult

Connect with your child and community while exploring creativity! In this fun and enriching playshop, you’ll express yourself through various activities — rhythm, writing, making visuals, and storytelling. Together we’ll cultivate appreciation and empathy for others, while celebrating what makes each of us unique. Simply bring a curious mind and open heart. Ages 9+

Advanced Youth Pottery

In this course students will use advanced pottery and sculptural techniques including work on the potter’s wheel. This course is for youth who have had previous experience with pottery and are at least 8 years of age. A healthy snack will be provided at the beginning of class. The course fee includes the cost of materials. Ages 8+.

Drawing is the foundation for all artistic mediums, plus it is relaxing and can unleash your creativity. Come prepared to try some new media and techniques as you develop your drawing skills and then build on those skills as you move on to painting. This class is appropriate for students of all abilities, and sure to be fun for all. A healthy snack will be provided at the start of class. Instructor will provide all materials needed for the class. Ages 9-15.

Art for All: Family Night at the MAC

Experience “art stations” throughout the MAC, with creative activities appropriate for family members ages 6+. Learn about art activities you can do at home and classes you can take to further develop your art skills and creative thinking.

Paint Samson’s Portrait in Watercolor

Learn to paint Samson a wonderful lamb who is the main character in Samson’s Gift. You will learn to draw Samson, and paint him with watercolor. Ellen Diederich will read “ Samson’s Gift” and sign and give you a copy of book . Supplies are provided. You will learn basic skills in drawing and watercolor that you can use all of your life. Stop by later and see the exhibition of all of the paintings from Samson’s Gift. Ages 7 – 12.
