Family Open Studio

Explore the process of creating art together! Our relaxed environment allows you to nurture your budding artist’s interest and enjoy each other’s company as you create side-by-side or together to complete unique creations. Each session will have different materials with a suggested subject. Fee covers one child and one adult, per session.
Ages 2+

1st, 3rd and 5th Saturday, Feb 4 – May 20
Fee: $5 per one child and one adult, $5 for every additional 2 people.

Art Around the World in Northern MN

Diversity is a beautiful thing, both in life, and in art. Come experience and celebrate the cultural diversity we have here in our area through community sharing and art activities. Each session will have a different guest to share their culture with us and a MAC instructor to lead a coordinated art project. This is a multi-generational arts and culture activity, open to all! Ages 8+ (ages 4-7 welcome with an adult).

Wheel Thrown and Sculptural Pottery

In this course students will use advanced pottery and sculptural techniques including work on the potter’s wheel. This course is for youth who have had previous experience with pottery and are at least 9 years of age. A healthy snack will be provided at the beginning of class. The course fee includes the cost of materials. Ages 9-15.

Sculpture for Kids

Experiment with different sculpture mediums from clay to paper to cardboard to mixed media processes. Students will make something with their hands that is both visually interesting and fun to handle. A healthy snack will be provided during each class. The course fee includes the cost of materials. Animation Achievement Get!

Master the art of stop motion animation films. Using a camera, a computer and your imagination, you will go through the process of creating your own short film and gain the skills needed to continue after the class has concluded. A healthy snack will be provided at the start of each class as we view some of the history of animation. Instructor will provide all materials for the class. Ages 9-15.

Art for All: Family Night at the MAC

Explore art activities related to Valentine’s Day and the Chinese New Year Lantern Festival! Decorate your own lantern and after sunset, join us in letting them fly into the sky! Play festive games and create art works with local artists! This Event is sponsored by Children First!

Drawing Big!

Explore the process of drawing as big as space allows. We will work on creating large self portraits, huge landscapes and abstract expressionist works. Previous drawing experience is not required, all that you need is a desire to create something large and impressive. A healthy snack will be provided during each class. Exploring Paper Creations

Create new things out of paper! A hands on class where students will learn many paper techniques they can do at home. From creating your own recycled paper, to paper marbling techniques, to paper folding techniques including origami. A healthy snack will be provided during each class. Instructor will provide all materials for the class. Ages 9-15.

Painting For Kids

Experiment with abstract and representational styles of painting. This class focuses on experimenting with materials and the art of play within two dimensional art. This class is appropriate for students of all abilities, and is sure to be fun for all. Because of the nature of painting, it is sure to be messy, and paint shirts will be provided, but it is advised to not wear anything that would be a shame to get dirty. A healthy snack will be provided at the start of class. The course fee includes the cost of materials. Ages 5-8.

3D Cardboard Sculpture

Cardboard is the perfect material to experiment with different sculptural ideas. Learn to work in 3 dimensions and develop concepts that translate into the basis for every sculptural medium. This class will start with small explorations and move into a large final project. A healthy snack will be provided during each class. The course fee includes the cost of materials. Ages 9-15.
