Using Colorful Darks to Create Powerful Paintings

High contrast in values is one of the most effective ways to make your paintings eye catching. The trouble is students, and even professional artists, often feel nervous about placing a strong dark into their painting. Often times a strong dark can muddy your color palette or be used incorrectly and make your piece seem off, further validating the tendency to avoid dark values. Yet often times at a juried exhibition the paintings with a strong value range are the award winners. This workshop focuses on coordinating color dominance and effective value contrast to increase your success.
